Mosaics Exhibition by Uri Perry

The artist, Uri Perry is a retired engineer who lives in the picturesque village of Killi. While he began mosaics as a hobby, today he presents for the first time, a collection of many years in a personal exhibition of mosaic works at Technopolis 20.

His inspiration derives through different images, whether this is a photograph, a natural landscape, a drawing or an object which he sees it through his own eyes and imagination. He is inspired by things he sees or imagines – by things that attract his attention.

But how did occurred his involvement with mosaics? “I have gone on retirement on 2011, after working for 15 years in Africa. I have built my house in a picturesque village, on the mountain, near Paphos and started looking for things to do during my free time. After a while, I was introduced to the art studio "Turtle & Moon", where I was suggested to try to make some decorations with pieces of broken tiles. I did a few, I liked it and I decided to do more. After a while, I wanted to develop something more sophisticate than just decorations. I decided to adapt the system and create real pictures. I watched the works of some local artists who were doing mosaic pictures of religious topics, and noticed that they were using cut-stones of natural rocks. I did not have the tools and equipment for cutting natural stones and I realized that buying them would be quite expensive. Therefore, I looked for a system of cutting ceramic tiles to tiny square pieces which will allow the creation of pictures. Nowadays, I do sawing and cutting ceramic tiles to squares of 5/5 – 6/6 mm and rectangular of 2/5 – 3/6 mm. These measurements allow me to create nuances of colors and to achieve a complete composition of picture of every topic.”
