Act I

Herr Stahlbaum’s children are Mary and Franz. They eagerly awaite gifts. The last of the guests – Drosselmeyer. His ability to revive toys amuses children but also scares them. Drosselmeyer takes off his mask. Mary and Franz recognize their beloved godfather.

Mary wants to play with dolls, but they are cleaned. Godfather gives a Nutcracker to Mary. Strange facial expression doll amuses her. Naughty and mischievous Franz accidentally breaks the doll. Mary upset. Mary cuddles and comforts her damaged favourite doll.

It is late and the guests must depart. The party comes to an end with some dances. The room in which there is a tree, is filled with moonlight. Mary returns, she embraces the Nutcracker.

Suddenly mice have taken over the room. They are headed by the Mouse King.

The Nutcracker leads the tin soldiers in the attack. Mary follows him. Overcoming her fear, she throws her slipper at the Mouse King at a decisive point in the battle, thus saving the Nutcracker. The Mouse King has been defeated and disappears together with his troops.

The Nutcracker wins the Mouse King!

Suddenly Nutcracker’s face begins to change. He turns into a beautiful Prince. Mary and Prince together and snowflakes swirl around.

Act II

Mary and Prince admire the beauty of the starry sky. They dance and celebrate the victory over the mouse army.

All dancing and having fun, celebrating the victory over the mouse army.

Spanish, Indian and Chinese dolls thank Mary for that she had saved their lives. Lovely fairies and pages dance around.

Everyone prepare for the royal wedding of Mary and Prince . Mary wakes up. The Nutcracker still in her arms. She in a familiar room. Alas, it was just a magic dream.
