"Neighbourhood Concerts" of the CySO (Larnaka)

For the first time within the “Neighbourhood Concerts” of the CySO we introduce to you to the Symphony, one of the most significant orchestral musical genres of classical music. Through samples of popular symphonies by the greatest composers of the genre, we will make a journey of 130 years: from the classical composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn (end of 18ου c.) to the “romantics” Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert up to the Russian Sergei Prokofiev (beginning of 20th c.). We will begin by showcasing the “standard classical” movements (fast, slow, minuet, finale) which form a Symphony both as a structural form as well as stylistically. Then, we will take it one step further by showing how such movements form a unified work such as Prokofiev’s “Classical” Symphony.

L. v. Beethoven: Symphony no. 8 in F major: I. Allegro vivace e con brio
Fr. Schubert: Symphony no. 6 in C major (“Little”): II. Andante
Haydn: Symphony no. 101 in D major (“The Clock”): III. Menuetto
A. Mozart: Symphony no. 41 in C major, K. 551 (“Jupiter”): IV. Molto Allegro
Prokofiev: Symphony no. 1 in D major, op. 25 (“Classical”)
