Maria Varnakkidou | devised theatre

RAM is a work-in-progress devised theatre performance based on the relation of human and technological memory.

Based on this theme, the 10-day residency will comprise of a series of workshops that will aim at a deeper research of the theme. In turn, this research will widen and enrich the story. By using the methodology of devised theatre, we will produce a new theatrical text that will deal with memory and technology.

What happens when a human being fights to have a healthy relationship with memory?

Our protagonist is faced with the passing of time, age and loss of memory. The passing of time is insidious; sometimes time runs fast and deletes memories, but some other times, time is endless and tortures you with bad memories. Age inevitably causes a natural loss of memory. Loss of memory in turn brings loss of moments, experiences and beloved people, and forces you to live under new, unexplored conditions.

The loss of memory and its consequences begin to frighten the protagonist. Therefore, she enters into a personal struggle to rescue her memory. She makes the last attempts to trust her human memory without any technological assistance. She tries to not be overwhelmed by the advancements of technological memory.
