Young Artists Platform “The First Step” (Lefkosia)

German composer Max Bruch, favouring, along with but after Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms, a gradual evolution of the Classical ideals of Mozart and Haydn, found himself overshadowed by his larger-than-life contemporaries Wagner and Liszt. Another composer who was also somewhat overshadowed by his contemporaries was Czech-born Franz Krommer who, despite having been born a mere six months after the death of Handel and outliving Beethoven by four years, with an output of 110 catalogued works, is not that well-known to the public-at-large today. However, our two young soloists on the violin and clarinet will show us why it’s worth our time to get to know these two composers respectively, while our budding sopranos will share with us some of the most beautiful arias written by Mozart, Bellini, Puccini and Dvořák.
